POSTIMPRESSIONISM reproductions
Post-Impressionism is generally acknowledged to be the period after Manet which explores the evolution of the Impressionist period, i.e. 1886-92 (later changed to 1886- 1914).The Post-Impressionist era is not an easy one to define as over history many names have been given to groups of artists who also belong to this movement ; such as The Nabis, Fauvists, Symbolists, Modernists and Pointillists.
Post-Impressionists used bold colours and continued to lay their paint thick like the Impressionists but they were prone to depict geometrical forms or to distort shapes in order to create greater or differing expression. They also had a tendency to use unrealistic colour.
Important artists of the movement are Paul Cezanne, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Pierre Bonnard.
