FAUVISM reproductions
Fauvism or Les Fauves ( the wild beasts) was a loose group of artists which came together officially for only three years, although the style was continued for at least ten. The leaders, Henri Matisse and Andre Derain formed a group whose paintings made use of strong colour and showed that the artist had some painting abilities.Bold brush strokes, loud colours and simplified and abstract subject matter were the characteristics of the Fauvist style. Fauvism is said to be a fusion of Van Gogh and Seurat’s styles which has been extremely overdeveloped, and is therefore closely linked to Expressionism.
Other representatives of Fauvism are Maurice de Vlaminck and Henri Rousseau.
