IMPRESSIONISM reproductions

The Impressionist movement began in Paris in the 19th century and was made up of loosely connected artists who exhibited together in the 1860s. Impressionism is characterized by visible and bold brush strokes, emphasis on light and unusual angles as well as movement and open compositions.
The Impressionists broke from the Academy’s teachings and influenced new techniques and colour to their work. They also broke with tradition when they began painting out of doors unlike the studio painting that had been previously popular. Impressionism paved the way for Post-Impressionism, Fauvism and Cubism.
Among the most influential Impressionists are Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas and Claude Monet ( arguably the greatest Impressionist).
