REALISM reproductions
Realism developed in the 19th century and is a form of art which simply depicts subjects as they are in everyday life. Realism is closely linked to the French originating movement of Naturalism which developed in the 1850s. Realist painters wanted to move away from Romanticism and produce more realistic works (influenced by the introduction of the photograph) removed from emotional exaggerations. The Realist movement can be broken down into the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the Barbizon School. Important Realist artists are Gustave Courbet, Jean-Francois Millet and Camille Corot.
