The Hudson River School was an art movement that compromised of American lanscape painters who came together in the mid 19th century and were greatly influenced by European Romanticism. A large number of their paintings depict the Hudson River Valley and its surrounding areas. The Hudson River School style later developed into Luminism.The main representatives where Thomas Cole who is acknowledged to be the founder of the school, as well as Asher Durand and Sanford Robinson Gifford.
